Yeah, its quite a big day today, here in germany.
for 20 years now germany is one, and the wall is gone. a very historical day.

however, the 9th of november is a very important day to remember. We call it Schicksalstag (Day of Fate).

-1848: The Germany revolutionary is executed in vienna. The Revolution of the citizens is put to an end.
-1918: Germany is proclaimed a Republic.
-1923: The Hitler Putsch in Bavaria fails.
-1938: Kristallnacht/Progrom. Enforcements of the Hitler Youth, Gestapo, SS and SA destroyed/attacked Jewish shops and synagogues in Germany and Austria. 400 Jews are murdered, tenthousends were arested and send to concentration camps.
-1989: Fall of the Berlin Wall (Mauerfall). People from East Germany are allowed to travel out of the DDR into the BRD.

I had a very strange feeling, all day long, because i never felt any national consciousness. Germany never seemed to be that great. Hitler and the NS-time always seemed to forbid me to develop any proud of my country.
But now i know that is bullsh*t.
I just feel like People always see Germany as a country full of Nazis. I know, not everyone does, but there are some. And I always was supressed by the feeling, that if I say that Germany is great, everyone will think of me as a Nazi.
But I never felt the presents of a national feeling more intense than today, and it was justified.
